61Sometimes, it is hard to identify the source of the problem leading to carpenter ants invading home and building as there are many possible reason and factors that can contribute to the problem.
Therefore, instead of trying to salvage the problem when it happens, focus should be placed on prevention and how to control carpenter ant from invading.
To effectively execute preventive actions, you would need to ensure guidelines are being drawn and closely practice in order to achieve any level of success. If you choose to ignore the importance of following the preventive actions, once carpenter ants invade your home, it will be too late as damages are already made.
Below are some steps:-
1. It is a known fact that carpenter ants don't eat wood, but, they feed on sweet, sugar, honey or anything that are sweet as well as protein found in fats and meats. So, it is highly recommended that you store all food properly in sealed containers instead of leaving them in the open air.
2. If you have children at home, paid attention to corners, underneath chairs, carpets etc as they might have stuff sweet or candy wrappers into those places.
3. Don't leave any used plate, bowls, cups or glasses on the tables. Washed them immediately and thoroughly to remove any leftover food residues.
4. Dispose any container or wrapper that has held a sweet substance. If it is required to be stored, kept it away from the home.
5. Wash your kitchen and stoves with solution of water and bleach to remove any stain of sweet or food residue.
6. Swept and keep floors clean. Wipe them with bleach and water if possible.
7. Remove or trim any trees branches that touch your house roofing or siding. There should not be any direct contact as it might provide a path for carpenter ants to enter your house.
8. Tightly sealed all points that pipes or wires used to extend from the external to the inside of your house.
9. Repair any cracks to the foundation of your house as insects are capable of founding them fast.
10. Spray insecticide around doors and windows where carpenter ants are likely to enter the home.
It is not possible to list down all the things that you should do to prevent carpenter ants as there are far too many. The above are just some of the simple one. To effective prevent the problem, you need to use your own judgment. If you feel that there is a risk, fix it.
